Study targets

The overarching goal of the General Mechanical Engineering B.Eng. degree program is to produce individuals who have acquired broad-based expertise in the field of mechanical engineering. They should contribute to the efficient use and further development of the technologies available in mechanical engineering and thus ensure and increase the success of the company. An engineering education with a focus on social skills serves this purpose.

Qualification goals

In order to be able to work successfully as a mechanical engineer in the specific areas of responsibility, e.g. in development, planning and design as well as in production and sales, students on the Mechanical Engineering B.Eng. course should acquire the following qualifications:

  • Ability to think scientifically and critically with interdisciplinary references.
  • Ability to think and act in an interdisciplinary, system-oriented manner on the basis of sound engineering fundamentals and solid basic knowledge of mechanical engineering.
  • Ability to create simple models of complex technical relationships and to master strategies for solving complex problems.
  • Ability to develop scientific engineering knowledge and apply it as qualified specialists in the professional environment of the mechanical engineering industry.
  • Ability to understand basic theoretical relationships and to transfer them to related fields.
  • Ability to design and realize or adapt machines and machine elements, taking into account the specific properties of the materials.
  • Ability to design modern machines and systems and implement them using suitable tools.
  • Ability to organize processes in development and production.

The department works closely with the mechanical engineering industry to define the training objectives. An essential part of the training is the acquisition of broad-based basic knowledge. CAD and CAE methods play an important role.

The focus is not on specific factual knowledge that can be called up, but on teaching technical, methodological and social skills in equal measure.
