In the Department of Mechanical and Plastics Engineering, the Dean's Office, professors and staff work together to provide students with an excellent education.
The department promotes research and development projects of its members in order to maintain the topicality of teaching at the highest level and to offer students a modern project-based course of study.
The department seeks cooperation with external partners in science and industry and offers professional and competent services. This increases the practical relevance of teaching and gives students the opportunity to come into contact with their future professional environment at an early stage.

Vision
Visionary into the future: The Department of Mechanical and Plastics Engineering focuses on sustainable methods and technical solutions to meet the challenges of the coming years with power. We offer a first-class academic education that optimally prepares our graduates for the demands of industry. In the fields of mechanical engineering, mechatronics and plastics technology, we are a strong partner for applied research and drive forward the development of future-oriented technologies. We are actively committed to transferring teaching and research results for the benefit of society, our industrial partners and our students.
Mission
How can we achieve this? Through teamwork, open communication and respect. As an interdisciplinary department, we embrace diversity and challenge it. We are involved in forward-looking fields of study and are in active exchange with other departments through research centers and the Doctoral Center for Sustainability Sciences. Internationality is an important part of our work and is reflected in numerous collaborations with international partners in research and teaching as well as in our involvement in shaping the European University of Technology (EUt+) and our very international student body. We believe that modern and flexible ways of working in the department and in teaching are essential. That's why we not only use a variety of digital methods, but also rely on personal exchange. Because we know that: This is the only way we can increase learning success and optimally prepare our students for the real world.
Goals and strategy
We are proud that our professors draw on their experience in demanding industrial activities to ensure practice-oriented teaching. Our students are directly involved in research projects and industry collaborations and even spend parts of their studies in companies. This prepares them well for the practical application of their knowledge. Our goals and strategies are fully focused on sustainable development, digitalization and mobility. We find solutions to complex societal problems and continuously expand our offerings to improve student success. Our engineering degree programs are more attractive than ever before and we also offer lifelong academic continuing education programs to support the university as a place of lifelong learning.
How can we become even stronger? By participating in EUT+ and building up the academic mid-level faculty as well as appointing professors with strong research skills! We are giving our already strong research even more power and continuing our successful work in institutes, research and doctoral centers. Because we know that: We can only achieve our goals through continuous development. And we support our research teams so that they can achieve their goals faster and celebrate even greater successes. We move forward together and let nothing stop us!
