Mechanical engineering

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering - a challenging foundation course

Ready for an adrenaline rush? Studying mechanical engineering is the epitome of technical innovation and progress. It lays the foundations for developing vehicles, airplanes, wind turbines and medical devices - everything that drives our modern society forward. In just six semesters, prospective mechanical engineers acquire a broad range of engineering know-how that is powerful in the truest sense of the word. Using state-of-the-art simulation programs, they learn how to design components functionally and assemble them into modules. But that's not all! Production processes are also developed, always keeping an eye on the business aspects.

But we teach more than just technical knowledge. Language skills and team qualifications round off the power program. And if you would like to prepare specifically for your studies, we offer suitable preliminary courses.

Our goals

The General Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's degree program is full of energy and passion aimed at producing strong personalities. We want to train engineers who will advance mechanical engineering through their comprehensive expertise. We want to use existing technologies more effectively and develop them further to help companies succeed and grow. Our focus is not only on engineering training, but also on promoting social skills.

But what exactly do we pass on to our students? We want you to master subject-specific knowledge and be able to think across disciplines. They should be able to easily model complex technical relationships and solve problems with confidence. They should be able to apply engineering knowledge in their professional environment and understand basic theoretical relationships and transfer them to related fields. Our aim is for them to be able to design, realize and adapt machines and machine elements, taking into account the specific properties of the materials. And we want them to be able to design modern machines and systems.

Are you ready to work on the future of mechanical engineering? Then you've come to the right place! Our department works closely with the mechanical engineering industry to provide you with a broad range of basic knowledge. After all, it is not only factual knowledge that is important, but also technical, methodological and social skills. Together we will promote the success of companies and positively shape the world of mechanical engineering.

How is the course structured?

All students receive a "Diploma Supplement" in which their grade is assigned an ECTS grade from A to E, as is the case in Anglo-Saxon countries, for example. This promotes mobility and underlines the international orientation of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

Master's degree in mechanical engineering - for a successful career

Ready for a career full of power? The Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (M. Sc.) is the ultimate way to take your technical knowledge to the next level and hit the ground running in the modern mechanical engineering industry! In four semesters, you will not only deepen your basic knowledge in the areas of design theory, technical thermodynamics, production technology and mechanics, but also be able to pursue your individual interests in elective subjects. Whether aerodynamics, energy conversion, materials technology or drive technology - you will become an expert here!

But that's not all: engineering research projects give you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in practice and work scientifically on specific tasks. You will not only learn how to lead, but also how to work in a team and tackle social issues - sometimes in English! The theoretical lectures are deepened through practical laboratory and project work and applied in real professional contexts. And best of all, lecturers from industry complement our professors to ensure that you are always up to date and dealing with current topics and issues.

Our goals

We want to produce mechanical engineering professionals who will change the world of engineering. We believe in individuals who have the potential to achieve great things in positions of responsibility. Our graduates will use the knowledge and skills they acquire to further develop the industry. Thanks to our in-depth engineering education with a focus on social skills, our students are ideally equipped for a career in mechanical and plant engineering, materials and environmental technology, aerospace, vehicle construction or management consultancy. Because we know that it's not just about technical expertise, but also about the right mindset.

What does it take to be successful in this field? It's about more than just specialist knowledge. We value skills such as scientific-critical thinking with interdisciplinary references, system-oriented thinking and action based on sound engineering fundamentals and solid basic knowledge of mechanical engineering. Our students will be able to model complex technical relationships and master strategies for solving complex problems. They will be able to develop engineering knowledge and work as qualified managers in the professional environment of the mechanical engineering industry.

This innovative degree program is a fantastic opportunity for graduates of the Bachelor's degree program in General Mechanical Engineering and other mechanical engineering disciplines to deepen their engineering knowledge. But, we also welcome graduates from universities of applied sciences to join us. You will gain access to the higher civil service and, if you wish, you can prepare for doctoral studies with us at a doctoral center or at German or foreign universities. Sounds exciting? This degree program gives you the chance to take your career to the next level and reach your full potential.

Modules. How is the course structured?

The specified CP (credit points) generally correspond to ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System). The degree course is structured in modules that combine courses on similar topics.
