Geotechnical center
Soil and rock mechanical investigations can be carried out in the geotechnical center. We also have simple equipment for investigating the terrain. In the practical course "Laboratory and field methods in geotechnics", students can get to know these investigations and carry them out themselves.
There is also equipment for determining the freeze-thaw cycle, for testing the abrasiveness of solid rock and for examining sealing wall masses.
The geotechnics laboratory also has a rock collection to support teaching in the field of geology.
Selected geological maps, e.g. of the Odenwald or Frankfurt, are also available.
The research area is currently focusing on
- Strength behavior of natural stones after microwave irradiation
- Dependence of the compressive strength of natural stone on the loading rate
are being worked on. As part of these research projects, theses for Bachelor's and Master's degrees in both civil and environmental engineering are also regularly offered.
