The minimum requirement for admission to the course is a qualified Bachelor's degree; it is also possible to start with a degree in engineering from a university of applied sciences or a university. Further information on admission can be found in the examination regulations (BBPO).

The demands placed on civil engineers have changed significantly in recent years. New issues have been added to the traditional tasks, such as the sustainability and energy efficiency of infrastructures. Modern building materials, new calculation possibilities due to the development of computer technology and the requirements of modern construction management also require in-depth knowledge. This knowledge is taught on the Master's course. The Master of Engineering (M. Eng.) course in Civil Engineering offers interested students with an above-average Bachelor's or Diplom degree the opportunity to deepen and expand their existing qualifications. Due to the size of the Department of Civil Engineering, the entire spectrum of civil engineering can be offered, from structural engineering to water management, environmental engineering, geotechnics, transportation, construction management and construction economics. Students are largely free to choose the content of their studies according to their inclinations and planned future activities.

The course is divided into modules .

  • A modules: In-depth and specialist modules with a high proportion of independent work. These are often projects to be completed independently.
  • B modules: Preparatory in-depth and specialist modules with mostly seminar-style teaching. The aim is usually to prepare students for the A modules.
  • C modules: To be chosen from the entire range of courses offered by Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. The aim is to strengthen interdisciplinary skills in line with the general studies approach. The content of the modules must not be related to the degree program.

The examination regulations and the module handbook specify the modules to be taken in the semesters (see examination matters).
