Process descriptions
Dear students,
You can submit your thesis as follows:
- Via the university's print shop: you can have your thesis printed here. (You can find more information about the print shop here). The theses will be sent to us by internal mail and we will distribute them to your supervisor(s)
- Send as a PDF by email (on the day of submission) to the lecturers and the examination board pruefungsausschuss.fbb@h-da.de in CC. If necessary, after consultation with your lecturers, send one or more copies directly to the respective lecturers or the university.
- Send the theses by post (the postmark counts as the submission date). We recommend sending the thesis as a package, you will receive a tracking number and can track the package online.
If you only submit your thesis online, we need a copy for archiving. This does not have to be submitted on the submission date. It can also be brought to the colloquium, for example, or sent by post. However, no final grade can be entered without this copy.
To be on the safe side, ask your lecturers whether they also need a copy.
AND, please sign the final theses!!!
After submitting your thesis, please contact your lecturer and arrange an appointment for the colloquium.
The thesis will be presented in a 15 - 45-minute colloquium. The discussion and the announcement of the assessment are not public.
At the end of the colloquium, your assessment including grade and a copy of your thesis will be forwarded to the Examinations Office by the lecturer. Your grade will be entered in the examinations office.
Once your degree has been generated in the HIS system, your degree documents will be created.
To ensure that the final documents can be created quickly, please check that your date of birth, place of birth or surname (e.g. middle name) are entered correctly. If there are any changes, please contact the SSC (Student Service Center) Tel.: 06151/33333 or info@h-da.de. You will receive a draft certificate by e-mail and can check again whether all modules are correctly shown on the certificate.
Dear students,
For the recognition of examinations from other colleges or universities, you will need the following documents for each module you wish to have recognized:
- "Recognition of examination achievements" form (can be found on the department's homepage)
- Overview of achievements from previous colleges or universities with your achievements
- Module description of the previous colleges or universities (please do not send us the entire module handbook)
Use the module handbook of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences to check which modules you can have recognized and which lecturer is responsible for recognition.
Recognition from TU Darmstadt does not have to be checked by the lecturers. The application, including a transcript of records and module description from TU Darmstadt, can be submitted directly to the Examination Board.
Please clarify recognitions from other colleges or universities with the relevant lecturers first, submitting the completed recognition form, the transcript of records and the module description.
The original signed recognition form (by you and the lecturer) can be handed in during office hours at the Examinations Office, placed in the letterbox in front of the Examinations Office or sent by email to pruefungsausschuss.fbb@h-da.de.
If the examination board has approved the recognition of the examination performance, the modules will be entered into QIS/my.hda without prior notification. If there are any uncertainties regarding recognition, you will be informed by the examination board by email!
Modules from the main study program will only be entered into QIS/my.hda after the requirements of your respective examination regulations have been met. Please contact the Examinations Office when you have fulfilled the necessary requirements.

Dear students,
if you are enrolled in the 4-semester Master's program, you must complete an additional semester of 30CP. The additional 30CP are defined in the respective Master's examination regulations.
You must complete a practical module of 15CP (if not included in your Bachelor's degree) and a further 15CP from modules that can be found in the respective examination regulations.
Please suggest the relevant modules you would like to take to the Examination Board.
- Application for supplementary semester Civil Engineering
- Application for supplementary semester Environmental Engineering.
Please note that this must be content that you have not previously completed. Please inform the Examination Board of the relevant modules by e-mail . In addition, please send your Bachelor's degree certificate to the Examination Board. Unfortunately, we do not have access to your application documents and need your Bachelor's certificate for comparison.
You will be notified by email by the Examination Board after approval or if there are any queries.
Further information can be found in the ABPO (General Provisions for Examination Regulations) applicable to you.
Dear students,
If you are unable to attend an examination due to illness, you must submit a medical certificate (original) to the Examinations Office within three working days together with the application for withdrawal. You can find the application form on the department's homepage.
We would like to point out once again that we will only accept medical certificates on which the doctor certifies that you are unable to take the examination. The yellow slip of paper (certificate of incapacity for work) for submission to the employer is not a medical certificate and will no longer be accepted! The certificate must state the date from which the inability to take the examination applies and how long the inability to take the examination is expected to last.
We will be happy to provide you with a template for the certificate.
The fully completed "Withdrawal from an examination due to illness" form must be submitted for each examination.
If one of the two documents is missing or if the documents submitted are incomplete or incorrect, the application cannot be granted.
Please understand that, due to the large number of examinations, we are unable to send out interim notifications or information about incorrect documents.
In the event of repeated notification of illness in the same module, the inability to take the examination must be proven by an official medical certificate from the Darmstadt health authority.
Dear students,
Compensation for disadvantages is intended to enable students with disabilities, chronic illnesses or temporary restrictions to access subject content and tasks and to provide evidence of what they have learned, taking into account their individual impairment.
As an application for compensation for disadvantages cannot be granted retroactively, students should register their need as early as possible, at the latest when registering for examinations.
The reasons for compensation for an impairment must be proven by a current original medical certificate with stamp and signature. A certificate on a prescription pad or a severely disabled person's pass are not sufficient.
A diagnosis does not have to be stated, but it can be helpful for understanding.
A description of the symptoms (type of impairment, e.g. mobility disorder, mental illness, partial impairment) and how the impairment affects the examination in a way that is understandable to a layperson is required. Specific recommendations on appropriate compensatory measures should also be made.
You can find further information under "Studying with a disability". The representative for students and prospective students will be happy to provide you with personal advice.
In the case of follow-up applications or longer-term measures to compensate for disadvantages, a medical certificate may be waived if proof of a chronic impairment was provided at an earlier date. This should be stated on the medical certificate.
A frequently requested compensation for disadvantages is an extension of writing time. In this case, a time recommendation with reference to a standard processing time of 90 minutes should be included in the medical certificate, for example
"... with an examination duration of 90 min. the writing time extension should be 15 min..."
Dear students,
If you have failed a compulsory examination (e.g. written examination) in the second repetition (3rd attempt), a supplementary oral examination must be held within a period of 8 weeks after the announcement of the examination results in accordance with §17 (6) of the ABPO.
The exam results are published in HIS QIS/my.hda. In your own interest, you should inform yourself promptly about the exam results. In consultation with the Examinations Office, we will refrain from providing additional information about the entitlement to an oral examination.
The examination board will apply for the supplementary oral examination and forward the documents to the lecturer with a request for a proposed date. As soon as the lecturer has given the examination board a date, you will be invited to the supplementary oral examination by email.
The examination is binding under examination law, even without express confirmation from the candidate.
If you are unable to attend the oral examination due to illness, you must justify this with a certificate from a public health officer if the examination board so decides.
The number of possible MEPs is determined by the PO according to which you are studying.
(BI PO2018 and UI PO2020: max. 2 MEPs in the entire degree program, otherwise the number is unlimited, see respective PO!)
Dear students,
All students who failed an examination the last time or the time before last or did not appear must repeat it in the next examination phase.
For the basic studies or compulsory modules from the main studies, which have three written attempts (please refer to your examination regulations), a compulsory registration will be made.
You will be automatically registered for the failed examination before the actual registration phase. It is not possible to deregister from the compulsory registration.
We make every effort to register all students and examinations. Please check whether you are registered. If you have not been compulsorily registered, please register for the examination yourself. Otherwise the examination will be marked as "not appeared". Students are responsible for registering for examinations.
Dear students,
If you are considering changing examination regulations, please find out about the advantages and disadvantages before making the change.
Please note that there are different changes of examination regulations:
Civil Engineering PO2011 Bachelor and Master:
- You can apply to change to PO2018 via the "Change of examination regulations" application . Please send the completed form to the examination board pruefungsausschuss.fbb@h-da.de
Environmental Engineering PO2013 Bachelor
- You can change your degree program to PO2020 via QIS/my.h-da! Please note that this is only possible during the application deadlines (see HDA homepage ). No application can be submitted to the Examination Board here.
Dear students,
Once you have completed all your coursework and successfully completed the colloquium, your application for the thesis, including your final grade and a copy of your thesis, will be forwarded to the Examinations Office by the lecturer.
Your grade will be entered in the Examinations Office. Once your degree has been generated in the HIS system, your final documents can be created.
To ensure that the final documents can be created quickly, please check in advance whether your date of birth, place of birth or surname (e.g. middle name) are entered correctly. If there are any changes, please contact the SSC (Student Service Center) https://h-da.de/studium/studienorganisation
Unfortunately, we can no longer send you a draft certificate for data protection reasons!
Once all achievements and the grade of your thesis have been entered, your graduation documents will be created and forwarded to the Dean and the Chair of the Examination Board for signature.
As soon as all final documents have been signed, the documents will be forwarded to the central examination office of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
The entire process can take 3 to 8 weeks.
You will be informed by the Examination Office of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences by email when the documents have been collected or sent.
Decisions of the Audit Committee
Dear students,
In its admissions conference on 02.07.2012, the examination board discussed the "usual performance" of BAföG recipients and decided unanimously:
According to this, it is assumed until further notice that "... usual performance" can be assumed if 66 to 75 percent of the performance envisaged for the standard course of study is present [e.g. at the end of the 4th semester, usual performance is between 79 and 90 credit points].
This results in the following minimum CP numbers, for example:
► 2nd semester: o.66 x 2 x 30 = 39.5 CPs
► 4th semester: o.66 x 4 x 30 = 79.0 CPs
► 6th semester: o.66 x 6 x 30 = 118.5 CPs
Dear students,
the Examination Board of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering decided the following regulation in its meeting on 25.01.2017:
Mobile phone/smartphone/tablet/prohibition during examinations.
Any mobile phone/smartphone/tablet or comparable device (hereinafter referred to as "mobile device") must be switched off before the start of the examination and stowed away out of reach (of the body, clothing, workplace). It may not be taken out during the entire examination, i.e. it may not come within reach. Failure to comply constitutes an act of deception within the meaning of Section 16 (3) ABPO.
Carrying a mobile device outside the examination room during the examination - e.g. when going to the toilet - constitutes a serious act of cheating within the meaning of Section 16 (3) ABPO.
The lecturer may deviate from this prohibition for individual examinations and allow previously explicitly named mobile devices under the aforementioned conditions.
