On September 29, 2024, the next construction section of the Frankfurt - Darmstadt high-speed cycle link was presented and approved at the "Radschnellweg live" event at Langen station. Since the ground-breaking ceremony in October 2018, the new 900-metre section to Langen station means that almost 10 km of the high-speed cycle link between Darmstadt-Wixhausen and Langen have been completed. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering(Student Project Office for Transportation) was involved with the department stand supervised by Dipl.-Ing. (TU) Mark-Simon Krause and Thomas Marx M.Eng. and in the stage program with Prof. Dr.-Ing.
The initial spark for this high-speed cycle link came from two master's theses at FBBU in 2014 (Philipp Konrad and Tobias Marquard). To date, the project has been scientifically supported by Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Follmann, Dipl.-Ing. (TU) Mark-Simon Krause) for the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas (HMWVW) and Regionalpark Südwest gGmbH. Once all the construction work has been completed, the route from Frankfurt to Darmstadt will be over 30 kilometers long.
In addition, data on S-pedelec use and its compatibility with all users is currently being collected for the HMWVW along the route (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Wolfermann and Thomas Marx M.Eng.).
